Another beautiful Alocasia – The Giant Taro plant (Alocasia macrorrhizos).
This tropical houseplant is actually a staple food for millions of people around the world. When peeled and boiled, the stems are a source of carbohydrate. The leaves and stems are rich in vitamins and are eaten just like vegetables. Although they are toxic if eaten raw so if you do want to try this at home, make sure you boil it for a long time.
Light – They appreciate bright indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as this can burn the leaves.
Water – Try to maintain an evenly moist but not soggy potting mix during the growing season, watering when the top two inches feel dry to the touch. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
